Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the availability of 13 PhD positions, in 10
institutions across 7 countries in Europe, to work on the field of
"Supermassive black holes formation and evolution and galaxies-AGN
co-evolution”.
The positions are available as part of “Big Data applications for
Black-hole Evolution STudies (BiD4BEST; PI: F. Shankar;
_https://wwwmpa.mpa-garching.mpg.de/~kdolag/BiD4BEST/_)”, a H2020 Marie
Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSCA-ITN-ETN) that offers an
innovative and intersectoral research training programme in one of the most
visible areas of astrophysical research. The training will involve
carefully designed industry secondments, mixed doctoral supervisory
committees between academia and industry, as well as coordinated events
across the network, as well as network-wide courses on astrophysics and
transferable skills.
Deadlines for applications vary depending on the country, with the
earliest at the beginning of March, and the latest at the beginning of
April, 2020.
For a full list of projects, links to individual adverts and eligibility
criteria (including mobility rules),
see: https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/486901
Within BiD4BEST, one position is available at the DIPC (San Sebastian,
Spain) under the supervision of Silvia Bonoli (silvia.bonoli en dipc.org), on
the topic “Connecting AGN to host galaxy properties”. The deadline is
March 6th 2020, but late applications will be accepted until position is
filled. More information can be found here:
https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/486269
I would appreciate if you could forward this message to potential
candidates.
With best regards,
Silvia

Dear colleagues,
I'm writing to ask for your help finding suitable candidates for the open
Resident Astronomer position at the Hobby-Eberly Telescope
<https://mcdonaldobservatory.org/research/telescopes/HET> at McDonald
Observatory in the beautiful Davis Mountains of west Texas.
The Resident Astronomer position has a 75%/25% split between service and
science time, and also includes a research budget for travel/etc. Ideally a
candidate would have a PhD in astronomy/physics, a strong background in
observational astronomy, and an interest in joining the operations team on
one of the largest optical telescopes in the world.
If you know of any potential candidates, please share this opportunity with
them - we will begin reviewing applications on March 31st. The full ad is
available on the AAS Job Register here:
https://jobregister.aas.org/ad/8ef7526d
and the application is available here:
https://utaustin.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UTstaff/job/MCDONALD-OBSERVATORY/Resident-Astronomer---Hobby-Eberly-Telescope_R_00008175
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions about
this search. Thanks for any connections you can help make, and for any
advice on how we can find the best candidate for this exciting opportunity,
Steven

Dear ICRAR-all,
Just a quick advertisement for an HI postdoc position to work with me on HI
and WALLABY science that I have available at CSIRO, Kensington. Please
feel free to pass this on to your students, ECRs & networks as you see fit:
https://jobs.csiro.au/job/Perth%2C-WA-Postdoctoral-Fellowship/637661300/
Thanks heaps in advance for your help,
Ivy

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to use the new
WEAVE-LOFAR survey to explore the impact of AGN and stellar feedback on
galaxy evolution. The WEAVE-LOFAR survey will use the 1000-fibre-fed
multi-object spectrograph (WEAVE) in La Palma to gather more than a
million spectra of star-forming galaxies and AGN, which have been
identified from extremely deep radio observations.
The successful candidate will work with Dr Nina Hatch and Prof Michael
Merrifield as part of the Nottingham Astronomy Group in the UK. In
addition to exploiting the spectroscopic survey to reveal the most
energetic phases of galaxy evolution, the successful candidate will make a
defining contribution to the WEAVE-LOFAR quality assurance effort, giving
the candidate privileged access to all WEAVE-LOFAR data.
Candidates should have or expect to shortly obtain a PhD (or equivalent)
in astronomy or a closely related subject. A research track record in
observational astronomy is essential and we are particularly interested in
candidates with experience of spectroscopic data or large astronomical
surveys.
This 3-year post is available from 1st April 2020, and the start date is
flexible.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Nina Hatch at
nina.hatch en nottingham.ac.uk <mailto:nina.hatch en nottingham.ac.uk>.
The full advert and information on how to apply is available at
