Dear IAU Members,

We are glad to announce that we are now accepting applications for
Abstracts and Grants for the 32nd International Astronomical Union General
Assembly 2024 (IAU GA 2024).

I would like to take the opportunity to personally invite you to attend
this historical event scheduled to take place from August 6 to 15, 2024, in
Cape Town, South Africa, and online. It will mark the first time that the
IAU GA will be held on the African continent; and embracing three core
principles: Accessibility, Impact and Sustainability.

The IAU GA will bring together thousands of astronomers, and the meeting
will be a stimulating and inspiring event for the global community. We
consider the in-person experience to be a valuable opportunity for
participants, particularly early-career astronomers, to forge
life-impacting collaborations and advance their careers. With this in mind,
I want to highlight that the IAU, as well as several other institutions,
will offer grants to participants who may not have sufficient travel funds.

Abstract and Grant applications for both in-person and virtual participants
are *accepted until 1 March 2024* (together with the early-bird
registration).

The IAU GA 2024 will feature an array of scientific sessions, symposia, and
meetings across various astronomical disciplines. Some examples include
symposia on Gravitational Wave Astrophysics, Advances in Solar
Observations, and Planetary Science in the JWST Era, among others. Division
and Working Group meetings will cover topics from Fundamental Astronomy to
Dark and Quiet Sky Protection. A full list is available on the website:

I would like to thank the South African National Research Foundation and
the Department of Science and Innovation, for hosting and supporting the
General Assembly; and all the efforts of the National Organising Committee
