SUPERNOVA 2014bq
     A. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, A. Mahabal, and R. Williams,
California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M.
Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; and S. M. Larson and E.
Christensen, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, report the
Catalina Real-time Transient Survey discovery of an apparent supernova in
unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images:

Further CSS magnitudes for 2014bq:  May 19.44 UT, [19.0; May 27.43, 18.3.

     L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, A. Pastorello, E. Cappellaro, N. Elias-Rosa, P.
Ochner, and M. Turatto, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, INAF, report that
an optical spectrogram (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.3 nm) of 2014bq,
obtained on June 8.90 UT with the Asiago 182-cm Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC)
under the Asiago Transient Classification Program (Tomasella et al. 2014,
posted at website URL http://arxiv.org/abs/1403.7233), shows that this is a
type-Ia supernova.  A good match is found with several type-Ia supernovae at
redshift around 0.07 and near maximum light.  An expansion velocity of 9800
km/s is derived from the minimum of the Si II 635-nm line.  The Asiago
classification spectrum is posted at website URL http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it.
Classification was made via GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383)
and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024).

     A. S. Moskvitin, V. N. Komarova, V. V. Sololov, and T. N. Sokolova,
Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS);
and A. F. Valeev, SAO/RAS and Kazan Federal University, report on observations
of 2014bq obtained on June 6.96 UT with SAO's BTA 6-m reflector (+ SCORPIO-I;
range 380-790 nm).  Photometry yields the following magnitudes (+/- 0.01):
B = 17.92, V = 17.81, R = 17.69.  Spectroscopy confirms 2014bq as a type-Ia
supernova; cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the
"Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666,
1024) indicates the best matches for 2014bq are with the spectra of the
type-Ia supernova 1999aa near maximum brightness, redshifted by z = 0.08 +/-
0.004.
