SUPERNOVA 2014bp
     A. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, A. Mahabal, and R. Williams,
California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M.
Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; and S. M. Larson and E.
Christensen, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, report the
Catalina Real-time Transient Survey discovery of an apparent supernova in
unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images:

SN 2014 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
 2014bp June 5.37 15 36 31.24 +46 54 14.2 18.1 2".6 E, 3".8 N

Further CSS magnitudes for 2014bp: May 12.39 UT, [19.3; May 26.35, 17.9.

     L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, A. Pastorello, E. Cappellaro, N. Elias-Rosa, P.
Ochner, and M. Turatto report that an optical spectrogram (range 340-820 nm;
resolution 1.3 nm) of 2014bp, obtained on June 8.95 UT with the Asiago 182-cm
Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC) under the Asiago Transient Classification
Program (Tomasella et al. 2014, posted at URL http://arxiv.org/abs/1403.7233),
shows that this is a normal type-Ia supernova. Adopting a redshift z = 0.068
for the host galaxy, a good match is found with several type-Ia supernovae at
about one week after B-band maximum light. An expansion velocity of 9600 km/s
is derived from the minimum of the Si II 635-nm line. The Asiago
classification spectrum is posted at website URL http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it.
Classification was made via GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383)
and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024).
