AS 270
Elizabeth O. Waagen, American Association of Variable Star Observers
(AAVSO), reports that the symbiotic star AS 270 (located at R.A. =
18h05m33s.73, Decl. = -20d20'38".1, equinox 2000.0) is in outburst for the
first time (according to observations submitted to the AAVSO International
Database) since Sept. 2001. The last apparent full outburst of AS 270
occurred in late August 2001, the star reaching visual magnitude 10.8 on
2001 Sept. 10) and being brighter than mag 13 for well over 30 days (though
the duration of the outburst is not known due to the end of the observing
season; it was still at V = 12.9 and R = 11.8 on 2002 Apr. 25). From 2005
July 4 until 2013 October, AS 270 varied between visual magnitudes 13.3 and
14.2. Waagen provides more details in AAVSO Special Notice No. 375.
Recent selected magnitudes of AS 270, provided by Waagen: 2013 Oct.
