SUPERNOVA 2012gh
     A. A. Mahabal, A. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, and R.
Williams, California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton
University; M. Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; and S. M.
Larson and E. Christensen, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of
Arizona, report the discovery of an apparent supernova in unfiltered Catalina
Sky Survey (CSS) images:

 SN 2012 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag.
 2012gh Oct. 26.09 16 46 52.49 +56 51 05.4 18.0

Nothing was visible at this position on a CSS image from June 22.27 UT
(limiting mag 19.0). Photometric magnitudes for 2012gh, obtained with the
Palomar 1.5-m telescope (+ Gunn filters): Nov. 5.11, g = 18.1, r = 17.8, i
= 17.5, z = 17.0.

     L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, A. Pastorello, M. Turatto, and
M. Fiaschi, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di
Astrofisica, report that optical spectroscopy (range 340-820 nm; resolution
1.3 nm), obtained on Nov. 5.78 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope
(+ AFOSC), shows that 2012gh is a type-Ic supernova at a redshift z, about,
0.07. The best match was found with the type-Ic supernova 2007gr (Tanaka et
al. 2008, Ap.J. 689, 1191; Valenti et al. 2008, Ap.J. 673, L155) some days
after maximum. The Asiago classification spectra are posted at website URL
http://graspa.oapd.inaf.it; classification was made via GELATO (Harutyunyan
et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666,
1024).
