SUPERNOVA 2012ge = PSN J13144705+5405055
Denis Denisenko and V. Lipunov, Sternberg Astronomical Institute (SAI),
Lomonosov Moscow State University, reports the discovery by P. Balanutsa of an
apparent supernova (magnitude 16.5) on two 60-s unfiltered survey images taken
by the MASTER-Amur robotic telescope (0.40-m f/2.5 reflector) on Oct. 25.844
and 25.877 UT. The new object is located at R.A. = 13h14m47s.05, Decl. =
+54d05'05".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 4".4 east and 9".1 south of the core
of the galaxy PGC 3087098 (= SDSS J131446.51+540514.8, with z = 0.03316).
D. Denisenko and E. Gorbovskoy (SAI) add that nothing is visible at this
position on unfiltered images from the identical MASTER-Tunka telescope taken
on 2012 May 5.735 UT (limiting mag 18.8) or on digitized Palomar Sky Survey
plates to limiting magnitude about 21 and on a Sloan Digital Sky Survey color
image to limiting mag about 23. Relevant images are posted at website URL
http://master.sai.msu.ru/static/OT/PSNJ131447+540505-DSS-SDSS.jpg. The
variable was designated PSN J13144705+5405055 when it was posted at the
Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2012ge based on the
spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Joseph Brimacombe (Cairns,
Australia) reports red mag 18.0 and position end figures 47s.18, 05".2 for
2012ge from images taken on Nov. 2.494; he has posted imagery of 2012ge
at website URL http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/8152997448/.

     S. Vanni, A. Pastorello, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, P. Ochner, L.
Tomasella, and M. Turatto, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto
Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that optical spectroscopy (range 340-820 nm;
resolution 1.3 nm), obtained on Nov. 8.18 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico
Telescope (+ AFOSC), shows that PSN J13144705+5405055 = SN 2012ge is a type-Ia
supernova at a redshift z about 0.033 (assumed from the Sloan Digital Sky
Survey Data Release 3). The best match for 2012ge was found with the type-Ia
supernova 2002bo (Benetti et al. 2004, MNRAS 348, 261) about 3-4 weeks after
its B-band maximum light. The Asiago classification spectra are posted at
website URL http://graspa.oapd.inaf.it; classification was made via GELATO
(Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007,
Ap.J. 666, 1024).
