SUPERNOVA 2012hj IN MCG +08-20-89 = PSN J11071919+4622462
     T. Boles, Coddenham, England, reports the discovery of an apparent
supernova (mag 17.7) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Dec. 4.168 and
4.990 with a 0.35-m reflector.  The new object is located at R.A. =
11h07m19s.19, Decl. = +46o22'46.2" (equinox 2000.0), which is approximately
5".5 west and 14".1 south of the center of MCG +08-20-89 (= PGC 33672).
Nothing is present at this position on Digitized Sky Survey plates from
1997 Mar. 6 (limiting red mag 20.5) and 1990 Jan. 25 (limiting blue mag 21.0).
The variable was designated PSN J11071919+4622462 when it was posted at the
Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2012hj based on the
spectroscopic confirmation reported below.  Additional magnitudes for 2012hj:

5.424, 18.0 (L. Elenin, Lyubertsy, Russia; and I. Molotov, Moscow; remotely
taken with a 0.45-m f/2.8 telescope at the ISON-NM Observatory near Mayhill,

     L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, P. Ochner, A. Pastorello, and M.
Turatto, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica,
report that optical spectroscopy (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.3 nm),
obtained on Dec. 5.15 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC;
range 350-820 nm, resolution 1.3 nm), indicates that PSN J11071919+4622462 =
SN 2012hj is a very young type-Ia supernova about ten days before maximum
light, at redshift z = 0.024597 (Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 4,
2005; via NED).  The expansion velocity, deduced from the Si II 635.5-nm
absorption, is about 16000 km/s.  The Asiago classification spectra are posted
at website URL http://graspa.oapd.inaf.it; classification was made via GELATO
(Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007,
Ap.J. 666, 1024).
