SUPERNOVA 2012hi IN UGC 4512 = PSN J08394202+6058160
     T. Boles, Coddenham, England, reports the discovery of an apparent
supernova (mag 17.7) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Dec. 2.925 and 3.936
UT with a 0.35-m reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 8h39m42s.02,
Decl. = +60o58'16".0, which is approximately 15".1 east and 7".7 north of the
center of UGC 4512. Nothing is present at this position on Digitized Sky
Survey plates from 1996 Mar. 16 (limiting red mag 20.5) and 2000 Jan. 7
(limiting blue mag 21.0). The variable was designated PSN J08394202+6058160
when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated
SN 2012hi based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional
CCD magnitudes for 2012hi:  Dec. 4.382, 17.1 (L. Elenin, Lyubertsy, Russia;
and I. Molotov, Moscow; remotely with a 0.45-m f/2.8 telescope at the ISON-NM
Observatory near Mayhill, NM, USA; position end figures 42s.02 +/- 0".08,
15".1 +/- 0".09; UCAC-4 reference stars; limiting mag about 19.5; image posted
at URL http://spaceobs.org/images/TOCP/PSNJ08394202+6058160-20121204.png);
4.755, 17.7 (Ron Arbour, South Wonston, U.K.; unfiltered limiting magnitude
18.6; position end figures 41s.97, 16".2); 4.991, R_c = 16.8 (Massimiliano
Martignoni, Magnago, Italy; 0.25-m f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector;
position end figures 41s.89, 14".7).

     L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, P. Ochner, A. Pastorello, and M.
Turatto, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica,
report that optical spectroscopy (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.3 nm),
obtained on Dec. 5.09 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC;
range 350-820 nm; resolution 1.3 nm), shows that PSN J08394202+6058160 = SN
2012hi is a type-II supernova a few days after explosion at redshift z =
0.02639 (de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991, RC3; via NED database). Broad and
shallow P-Cyg lines of H (H-alpha has a FWHM around 9000 km/s) are detected.
The Asiago classification spectra are posted at the following website URL:
http://graspa.oapd.inaf.it; classification was made via GELATO (Harutyunyan
et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666,
1024).
