SUPERNOVA 2009gj IN NGC 134
     P. Marples, Loganholme, Queensland, Australia, reports the discovery of
an apparent supernova (red mag 15.9) by Stuart Parker (Oxford, Canterbury,
New Zealand) on a 60-s unfiltered CCD image taken on June 20.748 UT with a
35-cm Celestron C14 reflector; C. Drescher (Calamvale, Queensland) has
measured the new object from the discovery image to be located at R.A. =
0h30m28s.56, Decl. = -33o12'56".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 82" east and
102" north of the center of the nucleus of NGC 134. A confirming CCD image
was taken by S. Quirk (Mudgee, NSW, Australia) on June 22.64 using a 30.5-cm
reflector, yielding position end figures 28s.56, 56.3 and red mag 16.2 for
2009gj. Nothing is visible at this position on a Digitized Sky Survey image
from 1996 Oct. 4 (limiting red magnitude 17.6) or on a CCD image taken on 2007
Nov. 19 by G. Bock (Bannockburn, Queensland) using a 30-cm reflector (no
limiting magnitude or bandpass provided).
