VARIABLE STAR IN AURIGA
     M. Templeton, AAVSO, reports that a new deeply-eclipsing cataclysmic
variable (possibly of the AM-Her subtype) located at R.A. = 7h11m25s.99,
Decl. = +44o04'05".0 (equinox 2000.0) has been posted by the Catalina Sky
Survey (CSS) on 2008 Dec. 31, and the outburst has been two months long
according to CSS data. The period derived from two days of time-series
data submitted to the AAVSO indicates a period of 0.0813 days. Intensive
time-series observations submitted to the AAVSO by A. Oksanen, D. Boyd, and R.
Pickard have confirmed the very deep eclipses of about four magnitudes, along
with a very well defined light curve typical of edge-on accreting systems.
Additional time-series photometry, along with multicolor photometry and
long-term visual monitoring, are urgently requested for this interesting
variable star. At maximum, the unfiltered magnitude (with a V comparison
star mag) is around 14.8, and eclipses seem to be dropping the magnitude to
as low as 19 or fainter. Templeton adds that H. Maehara has noted that a
very blue USNO-B1.0-catalogue star has position end figures 26s.01, 05".5.
