NOVA NORMAE 2007
     W. Liller, Vina del Mar, Chile, reports his discovery of an apparent
nova (mag approximately 9.4) on two Technical Pan films taken at
approximately June 15.086 UT with an orange filter and an 85-mm camera
lens. The new star, which is also clearly seen at mag approximately 9.1
on a pair of similar photos taken at approximately June 7.193, is located
at R.A. = 16h32m.2, Decl. = -45d08' (equinox 2000.0). Nothing brighter
than magnitude 11.0 was seen at this position on May 20.1.
     G. Bolt (Perth, Western Australia, 0.20-m reflector) reports that his
unfiltered CCD image taken on June 16.7 UT yields red mag approximately
8.9-9.5 and the following precise position for the new object: R.A. =
16h32m11s.51, Decl. = -45d09'13".4 (equinox 2000.0). Bolt adds that
comparison with a Digitized Sky Survey image from 1997 Mar. 31 indicates
that the nearest visible star to the new object is about 3" away
(apparently correlating to a USNO-B1.0 catalogue star of red mag about 15);
the limiting red magnitude at the location of the new star is estimated to
be mag approximately 20.
Following posting on the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage,
H. Yamaoka (Kyushu University) reports that a prediscovery image of the
new object, taken by K. Haseda (Toyohashi, Aichi, Japan) on May 27.701 UT
with a Canon EOS-5D camera (+ 120-mm f/3.5 telephoto lens) shows the star
at mag about 9.3. An image (limiting mag about 10.2) taken on May 17.615
does not show any object around the reported position.
