SUPERNOVA 2011T IN UGC 10733 = PSN J17100362+3230012
M. Peoples, J. Newton, and T. Puckett report the discovery of an apparent
supernova (mag 16.3) on an unfiltered CCD image (limiting mag 19.2) taken with
a 0.40-m reflector at Portal, AZ, U.S.A., on Jan. 28.54 UT in the course of
the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object, which was confirmed
at mag 16.3 on Jan. 29.54 by Puckett with the 40-cm reflector at Portal, is
located at R.A. = 17h10m03s.62, Decl. = +32o30'01".2 (equinox 2000.0), which
is 22".9 west and 0".9 north of the center of UGC 10733. Nothing is visible
at this position on images taken by Puckett on 2010 Mar. 5 (limiting mag 19.8).
The object was designated PSN J17100362+3230012 on the Central Bureau's TOCP
webpage.
Uday K. Gurugubelli, D. K. Sahu, G. C. Anupama, P. Anto, and S. Arora,
Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, report that a low-resolution
spectrum (range 350-750 nm) of 2011T, obtained on Jan. 31.98 UT with the
Indian Astronomical Observatory's 2-m Himalayan Chandra Telescope (+ HFOSC),
shows it to be a normal type-Ia supernova, about a month after maximum light.
Using the SNID code of Blondin and Tonry (2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), the spectrum
of 2011T is found to best match that of SN 1994D at about 40 days after
maximum light.
