SUPERNOVA 2011as IN UGC 3098 = PSN J04370666+4355353
     Further to CBET 2640, A. Narla, S. B. Cenko, W. Li, and A. V. Filippenko
report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images:

SN 2011 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
 2011as Jan. 24.30 4 37 06.66 +43 55 35.3 19.1 6".5 E, 0".5 N

This object was designated PSN J04370666+4355353 when posted on the Central
Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011as based on the
spectroscopic report below. Additional unfiltered CCD magnitudes for 2011as
in UGC 3098: a co-added frame from images taken prior to 2011 Jan. 25,
[20.3 (KAIT); 2011 Jan. 25.20 UT, 19.3 (KAIT); Feb. 6.070, 17.4 (X. Bros,
Sabadell, Spain, 35-cm telescope; position end figures 06s.55, 35".5);
Mar. 6.808, 17.8 (Bros; position end figures 06s.12, 35".3).

     J. M. Silverman, S. B. Cenko, and A. V. Filippenko, University of
California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 330-1000
nm), obtained on Mar. 9 UT with the 10-m Keck I telescope (+ LRIS), shows that
PSN J04370666+4355353 = 2011as is a type-II supernova with well-developed P-Cyg
line profiles. The spectrum is consistent with an age of about 1.5 months,
derived from the discovery and prediscovery images. After removal of the
host-galaxy recession velocity of 3870 km/s (measured from narrow host-galaxy
emission lines), they find the absorption minimum of the H-alpha line to be
blueshifted by about 7600 km/s.
