SUPERNOVAE 2009C AND 2009D
Further to CBET 1607, W. Li, S. B. Cenko, and A. V. Filippenko, University
of California, report the LOSS discovery of two apparent supernovae on
unfiltered KAIT images:
SN 2009 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
2009C Jan. 2.15 23 13 42.84 +49 40 47.2 17.8 11".0 W, 11".1 N
2009D Jan. 2.31 3 54 22.83 -19 10 54.2 16.5 26".1 W, 30".9 N
Limiting KAIT magnitudes for 2009C in UGC 12433: 2008 Nov. 22.22 UT, [19.1;
Dec. 5.15, [18.4. Limiting KAIT magnitudes for 2009D in MCG -03-10-52:
2008 Nov. 18.32, [19.1; Dec. 12.28, [17.3.
P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf
of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that a spectrum (range 320-850 nm) of
obtained on Jan. 3 UT by M. Calkins with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m
telescope (+ FAST), shows 2009C to be a type-IIb supernova; cross-correlation
with a library of supernova spectra, using the "Supernova Identification" code
(Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), indicates that 2009C is about a
week past maximum light. Spectra of 2009D, taken as above by Calkins on Jan.
3 UT, shows 2009D to be a type-Ia supernova about a week before maximum light.
