SUPERNOVA 2008hp
     Further to CBET 1581, A. J. Drake, R. Williams, A. Mahabal, S. G.
Djorgovski, and M. J. Graham, California Institute of Technology; M. Catelan,
Pontificia Universidad Catolica; E. C. Beshore, S. M. Larson, and A. Boattini,
Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona; and E. Christensen,
Gemini Observatory, report the Catalina Real-time Transient Survey (CRTS)
discovery of apparent supernovae in unfiltered Catalina Sky Suvey (CSS) images:

SN 2008 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
 2008hp Nov. 22.43 9 43 26.22 +25 10 21.9 16.4 1" north

The host galaxy, SDSS J094326.19+251020.7, has Gunn magnitudes u = 23.2, g =
22.7, r = 22.8, i = 22.7, z = 23.6. Additional magnitudes for 2008hp: Oct.
28.52 UT, [20.0 (CSS); Nov. 24.34, g = 16.7, r = 16.8, i = 17.4 (Palomar 1.52-m
reflector + Gunn filters).
     E. Y. Hsiao, M. L. Graham, C. J. Pritchet, A. Parker, S. Sadavoy, and D.
Balam, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Victoria, report
that a spectrogram (range 390-703 nm, resolution 0.3 nm) of 2008hp, obtained
on Nov. 26.44 UT with the 1.82-m Plaskett Telescope of the National Research
Council of Canada, shows it to be a type-Ia supernova about 11 days past
maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using
the "Supernova Identification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024)
indicates that 2008hp is most similar to the type-Ia supernova 1994ae at 11
days past maximum light. The redshift derived from this fit is 0.027.
