M.Sc. student wanted - Mining Geophysics

Inconsistent core logging practices can lead to overly-complex
geological models for gold deposits. This is one of the conclusions
reached by Yorbeau Resources for its Augmitto Block. This insight was
achieved by re-logging core. The Piché Group was identified as the
most prospective unit in terms of its potential for gold production.
The first objective of this M.Sc. project is to study the
petrophysical signature of the Piché and the other groups at this site
to determine if they can be automatically identified solely on
physical properties that can be measured downhole. The second
objective will be to characterise the veins and veinlets that are
associated with the economic gold grades using optical televiewer
imagery (OTV).

The project is fully funded for 2 years through the Metal Earth Canada
First Research Excellence Fund to Laurentian University of Sudbury and
its partners. The project involves field data acquisition during the
summer along with validation and analysis of the results using mineral
chemistry analysis such as uXRF and SEM-MLA. The results will be
leveraged by Metal Earth researchers to further their understanding of
mineral endowment and the effect it has on the physical properties
that can be measured.
