Meridiano.

Tìtulo:
From dust to planetesimals - constraints from 25 years of laboratory
experiments

AUTHOR:
Jürgen Blum, IGeP, TU Braunschweig, Germany

ABSTRACT:
Dust growth in protoplanetary disks has been observed and its outcome
are eventually
planetary bodies. However, the growth from microscopically small dust
particles to
planetesimal sizes is not straightforward, but obstructed by
processes like bouncing,
fragmentation or erosion of dust aggregates, which have been
observed in laboratory
experiments. After 25 years of laboratory work on dust coagulation
and modeling of the
planetesimal-formation process, there are a few avenues left along
which planetesimals
may form. I will review the most important and the latest laboratory
results and will
comment on the plausibility of the main formation scenarios of planetesimals.
