[Alumnos] viernes: charla extraordinaria

Hola a todos,
Esta semana, ademas de nuestra charla habitual de los miercoles, 
tendremos una charla invitada  el viernes 12 a las 14hs en el salon 
Meridiano.

La charla de este viernes estara a cargo del Dr Alejandro Clocchiatti, 
astronomo egresado de nuestra casa, y quien fuera nombrado
  Personalidad Destacada de la ciudad de La Plata  por haber formado parte 
del grupo de investigadores que recibieron el Premio Nobel de Fisica en el 
año 2011, por haber descubierto la expansion acelerada del Universo 
midiendo distancias a Supernovas de tipo Ia.

El Dr Clocchiatti discurrira en su charla por la astrofisica y la 
cosmologia que enmarcan el fenomeno, la tecnologia que hizo posible el 
descubrimiento, y tambien por su experiencia personal como parte del 
equipo de investigacion.

Los esperamos a todos un ratito antes de la hora estipulada para

Distant Type Ia SNe, the discovery of Cosmic Acceleration, the 2011
Physics Nobel Prize, and all that fuzz.

The 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics was given to Saul Perlmutter (SN Cosmology
Project), Brian Schmidt and Adam Riess (High Z SN Search Team) for the
discovery of the accelerated expansion of the Universe by measuring
precise distances to high redshift Type Ia Supernovae. The 1998 discovery
was the surprising end of one of the large projects of 20th century
cosmology. In addition, the discovery was the result of the long evolution
of research lines that transformed supernovae in the best distance
estimator for cosmologically relevant distances at the current time.
Also, it was the final end of an exciting race between two competing teams
that struggled for years to arrive first to the result. The fact that each
of the teams was made up from researchers with different cultures (i.e.
physicists and astronomers) adds spice to the saga.

As a member of one of the teams I had a privileged view of the research, 
the impact of the result, and the story. In this conference I will cover the
basic framework of cosmology, astrophysics and technology that allowed us
to discover the acceleration of the Universe expansion, back in 1998.
