Title:
Asteroseismology of white dwarf stars: the case of the ZZ Ceti HS0507+0434B

Abstract:
The pulsating white dwarfs are g-mode non-radial pulsators. 
Asteroseismology provides constraints on their global parameters and 
internal structure. Among the white dwarf pulsators, the DA pulsators, or 
ZZ Ceti stars, are the most numerous . Since all the DA white dwarfs 
falling in the ZZ Ceti instability strip do pulsate, the internal 
structure derived from asteroseismology for the ZZ Cetis brings 
informations on the DA white dwarfs as a whole group. I will describe the 
results of observations performed on the ZZ Ceti HS 0507+0434B in 2007, 
2009 and 2009. I will show how those observations are used to estimate the 
global parameters of the star: its total mass, its luminosity and its 
hydrogen fractional mass.

About the speaker:
Gérard P. Vauclair is an Astrophysicist of the Institut de Recherche en 
Astronomie et Planétologie (IRAP), Observatoire Midi-Pyrenées, Toulouse 
Cedex, France.  His scientific activity:  Specialist of stellar evolution 
and astroseismology, mainly of the late stages of stellar evolution 
(central star of planetary nebulae, hot subdwarf stars of type B, white 
dwarf stars) and central stars of planetary systems.  In the Observatoire 
Midi-Pyrénées, he is in charge of all the activities related to the 
satellite CoRoT.
