Estimados miembros de la comunidad Gemini argentina:

Tenemos noticias de que algunos usuarios y miembros de la comunidad 
astronómica argentina recibieron recientemente el mensaje copiado más 
abajo, invitando a responder una encuesta en la página web de AURA 
(Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy).

Ante algunas consultas que se plantearon, queremos aclarar que la 
mencionada reestructuración de Gemini se refiere a la etapa que se abrirá 
al finalizar 2015, cuando termina el convenio vigente. Por otra parte, la 
propuesta de AURA, que pretende reflejar la opinión de los astrónomos de 
EEUU, fue presentada informalmente al Board de Gemini, sin que este 
organismo haya tratado aun el tema ni tomado decisión alguna al respecto.

Desde la Oficina Gemini Argentina (OGA) esperamos poder contar en breve 
con más información; por ahora la misma se limita a los dos documentos 
accesibles desde la página de AURA. Oportunamente difundiremos mayor 
información para procurar aclarar eventuales dudas de quienes deseen 
responder la encuesta planteada por el presidente de AURA. Desde ya, 
estaremos atentos a sus consultas e inquietudes.

Dear Colleague,

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) has been 
the managing organization for the International Gemini Observatory since 
its inception. I wanted to call your attention to a recent report by the 
AURA Board of Directors aimed at identifying possible governance 
structures for Gemini when the current International Agreement expires or 
is replaced (see http://www.aura-astronomy.org/news/news.asp?newsID=279) . 
There has been a great deal of discussion over what governance structure 
for Gemini is most appropriate, including a recent recommendation by the 
US Decadal Survey calling for a merger of Gemini with the National Optical 
Astronomy Observatory (NOAO).  The AURA Board report was intended to take 
this recommendation into consideration while recognizing the international 
nature of Gemini.

In order to fully understand the possible implications of this report and 
to identify possible paths forward, the AURA Board is soliciting comments. 
The above cited web address allows community members to submit public or 
private comments and allows submitters to identify themselves or remain 
anonymous.  I hope that you will take a moment to review this report and 
provide input.
