Dear colleagues,

The PhD and MSc programs in Astronomy at *Universidad de Concepción* are
pleased to announce the opening of the application process for the 2027
academic year. Prospective applicants are invited to apply here:

The Astronomy Department at Universidad de Concepción consists of 14
faculty members, along with several postdoctoral researchers, PhD and
Master students. The main research lines developed in our Department are:


   - *Extragalactic astronomy: *Active galactic nuclei (N. Nagar, M. L.
   Martinez Aldama), galaxy evolution (R. Herrera-Camus), supernova &
   transients (P. Pessi).
   - *Instrumentation:* Centro para la Instrumentación Astronómica (CEPIA;
   R. Reeves), dust laboratory (P. Solano, S. Bovino; Adjunct)
   - *Theory: *Dynamics (A. Trani, N. Leigh, M. Fellhauer), astro-chemistry
   (S. Bovino; Adjunct)
   - *Milky Way: *Star formation (A. Stutz) and feedback processes (PDRs,
   HII regions), binary and variable stars (R. Mennickent), stellar abundances
   and exoplanet characterization (J. Yana-Galarza).

The documents you will have to submit include:


   - Copy of undergraduate degree
   - Copy of undergraduate academic transcripts (for foreign applicants,
   the grading scale should be indicated)
   - Graduation ranking (with respect to all the students that graduated
   the same year). If your University does not provide this ranking, please
   let us know at info.doctorado en astro-udec.cl


In addition, please send to info.doctorado en astro-udec.cl the following
documents:


   - A motivation letter to enter the Program (in English)
   - CV (including for example: publications, research experience, outreach
   activities, conference participation, teaching experience).
   - Two recommendation letters


*Funding: *

The master program is accredited for 7 years until 2029. The PhD program is
in the process of being accredited.
Scholarships covering tuition and stipends could be available from various
sources, including Postgrado UdeC internal funds, Núcleos Milenios, CATA,
etc.
