We are pleased to announce that the application process for the *PhD
Programme in Astrophysics*

the* Institute
of Physics and Astronomy, University of Valparaíso, Chile *is open for the
academic year 2027. We welcome applications from highly motivated
candidates interested in pursuing doctoral research in astrophysics in an
active and international research environment.

*Chilean applicants must include their actual RUN in the registry

Important Dates:
Application Period: August 3 to September 7, 2026
Selection Process and Results: September 11 to October 19, 2026
Starting Date: March 2027 (most likely 15th of March).

Requirements:
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree and/or master’s degree in
Physics, Astronomy or closely related fields.

Documents Required for Application:
1. Motivation letter addressed to the program director or to the selection
committee, indicating the reasons for applying to our MSc program and your
main areas of research interest
2. Curriculum Vitae. Please explicitly include your experience in i)
Research (papers, projects, observations, internships), ii)
Conferences/Workshops/Schools, iii) Teaching/Assisting and iv) Outreach.
3. Copy of undergraduate degree (or an official letter from the University
indicating the expected graduation date).
4. Copy of undergraduate academic transcripts. For foreign applicants, the
grading scale should be clearly indicated (including minimum, maximum, and
passing grades).
5. Graduation ranking (with respect to all the students that graduated the
same year). If your University does not provide this ranking, please
contact postgrado.astrofisica en uv.cl to get a valid form for your
institution to sign).
6. Two letters of recommendation sent directly by recommenders to
postgrado.astrofisica en uv.cl no later than September 7, 2026.
Optional: Other documents (such as a master's degree and academic
transcripts) can be attached to the undergraduate degree/transcripts or
submitted as supplementary material to postgrado.astrofisica en uv.cl.

All documents, except recommendation letters, must be submitted through the
application portal.

Funding: Scholarships covering tuition and stipends are available from
various sources. Those who are selected for our program will be supported
by us in their application for the ANID national doctoral scholarship.
