A year of Women of Solar Physics

In 2025, as the Sun reaches its peak activity, the world has been treated
to an extraordinary display of solar events. This rare moment in the Solar
Cycle inspired the OAO to dedicate this year’s *Women and Girls in
Astronomy* programme to *Women of Solar Physics*.
Throughout 2025, we created a series of events and activities to highlight
the work of women whose research in solar physics is often less visible,
yet deeply important. Our aim was not only to showcase the diversity of
scientific contributions, from different countries, languages, and career
paths, but also to honour the commitment of women who study the Sun and its
influence on our daily lives.
Alongside our celebrations on the International Day of Women and Girls in
Science (11 February) and International Women’s Day (8 March), the theme
continued across the year, inviting the public to learn more about the Sun,
its changing activity, and the women shaping our understanding of it.

*100 Hours of Astronomy in numbers*

From 2 to 5 October 2025, we celebrated *100 Hours of Astronomy*, and
thanks to the enthusiasm of our community, activities continued throughout
the entire month. This year we saw the highest participation from our NOCs,
with several countries taking the event seriously enough to organise more
than 30 activities each.
These achievements were made possible through the collaboration of public
and private institutions, scientific organisations, universities, schools,
civil-society astronomy groups, and planetariums. Together, we reaffirm the
power of community and the remarkable impact of international networks.
We look forward to celebrating astronomy with you again in 2026!

Mexican Universe: 100 facts to be amazed

This collection of short videos, each less than one minute, presents 100
fascinating astronomy facts shared by researchers, science communicators,
astronomy enthusiasts, and postgraduate students (91% with advanced studies
in astronomy or related fields). Each video is narrated by its author:
women and men who were born in and/or live in Mexico.
Created for social media, the project highlights the strong connection
between Mexican identity and astronomy, inviting the public to discover and
enjoy scientific exploration of the cosmos. The full playlist, in
sequential order, is available on YouTube.
