Gracias

Hello, Everyone.
If you are familiar with *Globe at Night*, you know that it is an
international citizen science campaign that has people worldwide rate the
night sky brightness where they live. We have been running the program now
for 17 years. And recently *Chris Kyba et al *(including me) published a
paper in *Science*. By analyzing tens of thousands of Globe at Night
observations made by citizen scientists around the world over the past 12
years, we found that people are reporting fewer stars. These data (from
Globe at Night) can be explained by an* increase in night sky brightness of
9.6% each year*. This says that we need to figure out how we mitigate this,
by hopefully lighting better. *IDA *has been using this to promote their
cause and to call people to action. I hope it helps. We will be having a
special *Globe at Night campaign in February called Love the Stars*. Please
consider joining in taking observations: www.globeatnight.org/webapp/.

Here is a very wonderful article by Falchi and Bara that explains things in
more everyday language: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adf4952.

If you have participated in Globe at Night, thank you for making this paper
possible.
