I am writing to you to highlight *A Sign in Space*, an
interdisciplinary project by media artist Daniela de Paulis
<http://danieladepaulis.com/>, in collaboration with the SETI Institute,
the European Space Agency (ESA), the Green Bank Observatory and INAF, the
Italian National Institute for Astrophysics.

The project consists in transmitting a simulated extraterrestrial message
as part of a live performance, using an ESA spacecraft as celestial
source, which will take place in late May 2023. The objective of the
project is to involve the world-wide Search for Extraterrestrial
Intelligence community, professionals from different fields and
the broader public, in the reception, decoding and interpretation of the
message. This process will require global cooperation, bridging a
conversation around the topics of SETI, space research and society, across
multiple cultures and fields of expertise.

The performance will be broadcast via a live streamed event as radiotelescopes
on Earth observe the sky and receive the message. The decoding and
interpretation will take place on dedicated online platforms in the weeks
immediately following the reception of the message, and will be accompanied
by a series of webinars on a variety of topics relevant to the task, to
support the public as they tackle the message and its content.

We encourage professional astronomers, amateur astronomers, the
radio-amateur community as well as education and outreach professionals
around the world to spread the news and engage their respective communities
in the collective effort of decoding and interpreting the message.
Therefore, we would greatly appreciate it if you could disseminate the
project in your network.

If you are interested to participate and spearhead the project, possibly
also with a more prominent role in global events and/or leading online
events in your country/language, please reach out to myself and Daniela
(who is reading in cc) to find out more about possible engagement
opportunities for yourself, your community and the broader public in your
country.
