Announcement of Supernova Remnants and Their Progenitors Science Workshop
The Chandra X-ray Center is excited to offer a hybrid science workshop
August 16-18, 2022 at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian
(Cambridge, MA USA) on the subject of Supernova Remnants and Their
Progenitors <https://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/cdo/snr2022/>.
Chandra, with its high-spatial resolution and high-sensitivity, has
provided a detailed perspective into the demise of stars through their
explosive remnants. This science workshop will cover observational and
theoretical topics of supernova remnants and explore the connections to
their progenitors and progeny.
Topics to be explored include:
-
Evolution of supernovae progenitors, and the fingerprints they leave on
supernova remnant observables
-
Core collapse supernovae - theoretical and observational constraints
-
Type Ia supernovae channels - theoretical and observational constraints
-
Supernova - supernova remnant connection
-
X-ray observations of supernova remnants - what have we learned since
the launch of Chandra, and what questions should we address in the coming
decades
The workshop will highlight observational and theoretical results on
supernovae, supernova remnants, and their progenitors, and will address
questions that can be investigated with upcoming X-ray astronomy missions,
including XRISM and Athena.
