(VVV) Survey

Dates: 28, 29, 30 April 2020
Venue: Conference Hall of the in Hotel San Martín, Viña del Mar
Funded by the Center of Astrophysics of Valparaiso
Scientific Organizing Committee:
Phil Lucas, Javier Alonso Garcia, Marcio Catelan, André-Nicolas Chene,
Oscar González, Roberto Saito, and Dante Minniti (chair)
Local Organizing Committee:
Jura Borissova (chair), Rudy Kurtev, Nicolás Medina and Joyce Pullen
Main Goal:
For the past 11 years, the ESO Public Survey VISTA Variables in the Via
Láctea (VVV) and its continuation the Vista Variables in the Via Lactea
eXtended survey (VVV-X) have been mapping the inner Milky Way in the
near-IR.
The aim of the VVV annual workshops if to bring the science team together
in a pleasant informal environment in order to exchange valuable
information and to carry out collaborative work. This has been a
successful tradition in the past, including our meetings in Viña del Mar,
Antofagasta, Puerto Varas and Santiago (Chile), in Hertfordshire and
Edinburgh (UK), in Castelgandolfo (Italy), in Florianopolis (Brazil), and
in Hawaii (USA).
You are invited:
It is a pleasure to open an invitation for all VVV Science Team Members and
students to attend the next VVVX 2020 Workshop, to be held in Viña del Mar
(Chile), on 28-30 April 2020. We especially encourage young scientists to
attend (we offer support for students at all levels).
This VVVX 2020 Workshop will focus on discussing:
• the survey strategy for the final years of VVVX observations
• the new results from the VVV and VVVX databases
• the scientific cases enabled by synergies with other photometric surveys
• the different spectroscopic follow-up strategies
The VVVX 2020 Workshop will be an occasion to compare the new results on
observations, theory and modeling of the VVV database and complementary
surveys. The main topics to be discussed include (but are not limited to):
• Variable stars
• Proper motions
• Exoplanets
• Galactic structure
• Bulge formation and evolution
• Open and Globular star clusters and associations
• Young stellar objects
• Stellar evolution
• Hipervelocity stars
• Gravitational microlensing
• Transients
• High energy sources
• Background galaxies and clusters of galaxies
• Large databases, and Data Mining
• Nearby stars and Brown dwarfs
• Interstellar medium
