Dear friends and colleagues,

The IAU 100th anniversary celebrations are well underway and entering its
last phase. So far, over 4000 IAU100 events have been organized in 134
countries reaching out to millions of people worldwide. Most notably are
the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing (
MoonLanding50.org <http://moonlanding50.org/>), with over 1000 activities
conducted in 127 countries, and the IAU100 Name ExoWorlds project (
NameExoWorlds.IAU.org <http://nameexoworlds.iau.org/>), which is giving the
opportunity to over 100 countries to name their own exoplanet and parent
star.

The IAU100 Secretariat - together with the IAU Commission C1 Astronomy
Education and Development - is launching a final Global Project during the
IAU100 Celebrations and we would like to ask for your participation for its
success.  The Astronomy Day in Schools Global Project welcomes any amateur
or professional astronomer to participate. IAU100 encourages school visits
taking place during or around the week of 10-17 November 2019. During this
week, 10 November will mark the World Science Day for Peace and Development
and a Mercury transit will also take place on 11 November, which offers an
exciting outreach opportunity for visiting astronomers.

One of IAU100’s goals is to foster communication and exchange of ideas for
the global astronomical community. This initiative aims to instill a
 passion for space sciences in the next generation of scientists at a young
age. The project also wants to build on the (much appreciated) ongoing
efforts of astronomers who have been engaging with schools over the years
in numerous countries.

By providing a special opportunity for children and students to directly
interact and engage with astronomers in their communities, the Astronomy
Day in Schools initiative thus also provides tangible scientific role
models for children and students who can highlight and disseminate the
important role and impact of astronomy in our society.
