Dear National Committee for Astronomy or Adhering Organisation,

In furtherance of IAU mission and in response to the goals of the Strategic
Plan 2020-2030 approved at the XXXth General Assembly in Vienna in August
2018, IAU intends to establish soon the new Office of Astronomy for
Education (OAE) through an international call for proposals leading to a
by-lateral agreement, similar to the ones signed for the other three IAU
Offices already in operation: the OAD, the OAO and the OYA.

The OAE will focus on training and resources for using astronomy as a
stimulus for teaching and education, from elementary to high school level.

We are now launching a call requesting, in this first phase, *Letters of
Intent (LoI)* from countries or institutions interested in hosting the OAE,
in partnership with the IAU. The attached document provides more details on
the objectives aimed for the OAE.
The submission of a LoI is mandatory for submitting a full proposal and the
LoIs will be used to pre-select a short list of potential partners.

Since this is a very important step for the fulfilment of the ambition
expressed in the IAU Strategic Plan I count on your initiative and
enthusiasm in proposing to built a closer involvement with IAU, through
this partnership. Please take the initiative to forward the information to
Institutions or Organisations in your country that you consider to be
potential interested partners.

I look forward to receiving from you, or through you, an exciting and
creative Letter of Intent describing your willingness in embracing this new
project.
