Dear all,

Could you please inform all possibly interested persons in your 
institute about the following positions?

The Group of Photoionized Nebulae of the Valongo Observatory (UFRJ, Rio 
de Janeiro) is interested in one PhD student and one post-doctoral 
researcher to work in the RAMSES II project, which aims at mapping the 
population of SNa Ia progenitors in the galaxies of the Local Group. We 
emphasize that the project is starting to get data now, after we have 
successfully purchased and tested 4 narrow-band filters to be attached 
to GMOS, the optical multi-object camera and spectrograph of both Gemini 
telescopes. It's a very promising project and we would like to attract 
more students and post-doctoral researchers. This is a collaboration 
between Brazil, Chile, USA, Korea and Argentina, with myself as the PI. 
The opportunities, either from the point of view of obtaining and 
processing data or from the more theoretical interpretation of the 
results in the light of the various possible channels for SNe Ia are 
quite broad. The team brings together both theoreticians and observers, 
experts in optical, IR and X-ray Astronomy.

We would like to have at least a declaration of intent up June the 1st 
(PhD) and June the 8th (postdoc).
