[AAA] Second Binational AAA-SOCHIAS Meeting Updates and Reminders.

We are happy to share the following news regarding the organization of the
Second Binational AAA-SOCHIAS meeting.

* ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS OPEN
For the meeting we are using the AAA online platform to upload
contributions. There is a latex template on the meeting’s website that you
will need to use to upload your contributions. Please, only edit the
resumen.tex file, not the other files. Instructions will be available
within the main tex file.

For those that have never used the platform before, please bear in mind
that you need to register on it first. This process may take UP TO 5
BUSINESS DAYS for your account to be cleared  by the administrator to
upload contributions, so plan accordingly and don’t wait until last minute
to prepare your abstract.

* EXHIBITION SPACE
We are excited to announce that several observatories will be joining us
during the meeting with stands to interact with the astronomical community.
If you would like your institution to have a stand, please contact the
organization at binational2018 en gmail.com for further details (there is a
very limited number of stands available, and will be assigned on a first
come-first served basis).

*ASSOCIATED MEDIA DAY
The Media Day is a press conference prior to the meeting to present results
that are close to being published. The main objective, besides showcasing
results, is to generate public interest in the Binational meeting. Media
Day will most likely take place on Friday, October 5, in a central location
in Santiago. The presentation section will last approximately 45 minutes,
followed by a coffee break with time afterwards for the press to interview
researchers, get some quotes and inserts.
The Committee will select contributions to be a part of this event and will
coordinate with the authors.

* GRANTS
The first call for grant applications was a remarkable success.
Unfortunately, due to the high number of applicants (>110) we were not able
to offer assistance to all of them. If we manage to secure extra funds, we
may open a second call for applications. We will communicate it via this
channel.

*KEY DATES
2018-07-02: Deadline for abstract submission (contributed and invited)
2018-08-31: Expected release of scientific program
2018-09-07: End of Regular Registration
2018-10-07: Registration desk opens, poster and stand set up
2018-10-08: Scientific program begins, Welcome reception.
2018-10-10: Observatory visits and Conference Dinner
2018-10-12: Closing Ceremony

*MISCELLANEOUS
-Prices for lodging at the Meeting venue have been spotted on some websites
(including the Hotel’s own webpage) at lower prices than those offered as a
package by the Hotel itself. So, if you plan to stay at the meeting venue,
please consider booking your room as soon as possible to ensure the best
prices. Bear in mind that prices are expected to quickly rise as the date
approaches.
-On Wednesday (October 10) afternoon the scientific schedule will finish
before noon leaving that afternoon free for participants. During this
afternoon, participants may opt to visit one of the observatories located
within the region, opt to attending to a mini workshop on science
communication (to be confirmed), or simply to take the afternoon off. If
you are interested on visiting an observatory, please let us know on the
registration form as soon as possible to coordinate the logistics.
