Engaging the next generation of astronomers through creative writing.

Dear friends and colleagues,

In 2019, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) will celebrate its
100th anniversary (IAU100) and to commemorate, we will organise a year-long
celebration to increase awareness of a century of astronomical discoveries
as well as to support and improve the use of astronomy as a tool for
education, development and diplomacy.

For us at the IAU, engaging the *next generation of astronomers* in our
activities is paramount and of course, the IAU100 celebrations are no
exception. *We invite astronomy and physics students to write a short
story, of no more than 150 words and participate in our IAU100 challenge on
creative writing

Participants can submit within one of two categories: *Under One Sky*, with
stories showing the potential of astronomy to bring people together,
and *Inspiring
Stars,* with stories showing the key role astronomy can play for inclusion,
equity and diversity.

Winners can have their travel expenses covered to participate in
the 1919-2019: 100 Years Under One Sky flagship meeting in Brussels,
partial support to attend one IAU Symposium in 2019 or 2020; or win a
Telescope Celestron Firstcope. The deadline for submission is *15 January
2019, 11 pm UTC.*
