Dear colleagues,

We are very happy to announce a scientific conference on "Massive Stars and
Supernovae" to be held in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, 5-9 of
November 2018. The motivation is to celebrate the 65th birthday anniversary
of our great friend and mentor Nidia Morrell. The meeting will be dedicated
to the memory of Nolan Walborn, our good friend and collaborator.

The topics of this meeting cover a diversity of subjects studied by Dr.
Morrell during her career, and aim to encourage the interaction of research
teams working on issues related to massive stars themselves, the star
formation regions where these stars are found, and the phenomenon of
supernova explosion linked with the final stages of stellar evolution. We
understand that a scientific meeting focused on this subject will allow
direct exchange between experts in the field and young students, and will
certainly result in new projects of common interest.

The key topics to be explored at this meeting include:


   -

   Observations and surveys of massive stars: Wolf-Rayet stars, massive
   binaries
   -

   Stellar evolution: rotation, binarity, metallicity, mass loss and
   pulsations
   -

   Massive stars and their environments: runaway stars and mergers
   -

   Final fate of massive stars and their outcome
   -

   Supernova surveys: early discovery, rates, hosts
   -

   Superluminous supernovae, GRB-connected SNe, GW events
   -

   Supernova cosmology with Type Ia and Type II
   -

   SN Ia progenitors and explosion mechanisms

We have selected San Carlos de Bariloche city, in the South of Argentina, a
nice place surrounded by forests, mountains, and lakes. The meeting will be
held at the Gran Hotel Panamericano, which is located 20 kilometers off the
city centre. Further information about lodging will be provided in the
Second Announcement and in the meeting web page

Registration and abstract submission are now open. The early payment
conference fee is 350 USD. Payment method will be via bank transfer and
banking details will be announced shortly. Limited financial support for
local and/or regional participants is expected to be available.
