Estimados Colegas,

Les adjunto ahora una nueva invitación. A raíz del workshop que
hicimos en Morelia en octubre del año pasado
(http://www.sciesmex.unam.mx/workshop2015/), gestionamos un numero
especial en la revista Space Weather de la AGU
(http://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/agu/journal/10.1002/(ISSN)1542-7390/issues/).

- lunes 29 de febrero: submission of a statement of interest, title,
abstract, and suggestions of referees
- viernes 1 de julio: manuscript submission

Space Weather Special Issue "Remote Sensing Observations and Space
Weather" - First Announcement

Dear Colleagues.

Heliophysics is considered to be the all-encompassing sub-field of
astrophysics which includes subjects from the Sunís core to planetary
cores, and indeed, to the edge of the heliosphere where the Sunís
influence in the galaxy ends and that of the interstellar medium (IsM)
takes over. There are many different physical domains within
heliophysics, where the physical specifications and boundary
conditions vary considerably, and thus it is a wide area of current
scientific research. Space weather is one specific domain within
heliophysics.

We would like to solicit a statement of interest (SOI) for each
contribution from those in the wider heliophysics community for this
Special Issue (SI) in the Journal Space Weather (SW) from all aspects
of remote sensing techniques (observations, data, results, modelling,
etcÖ) related to Space Weather. This includes papers where remote
sensing forms the basis of each paper or forms a strong complimentary
data set to other space-weather observations, measurements, or
modelling. The idea of this SI collection is based on the wide use
and availability of remote-sensing techniques and modelling as applied
to space-weather science and applications/forecasting. The collection
also will serve as a basis for a proceedings coming out of the Third
Remote Sensing of the Inner Heliosphere and Space Weather Applications
Workshop held in Morelia, Mexico, 20-24 October 2015
(http://www.sciesmex.unam.mx/workshop2015/) where ideas presented
ranged from coronal, heliospheric, and ionospheric topics within the
space-weather domain. The main focus of the workshop dealt primarily
with radio remote-sensing techniques as well as the now-operating
interplanetary scintillation (IPS) array near Morelia, Mexico, and the
recently-established space weather service in Mexico (SCiESMEX). The
collection would welcome submissions coming out of that workshop as
well as, more generally, any paper based on remote sensing and space
weather, but the SI will likely carry a radio focus overall.
Observations and modelling of the heliosphere for space weather
via/incorporating remote-sensing methods are of a critical importance
to improving our understanding of the Physics behind the various
components of space weather and how each of these components couples
to the next.

The SI will consist of completed, original research papers on this
common theme which would benefit from being published together. All
of the papers will be fully refereed in the normal manner. To assist
the Guest Editor, Dr. Mario M. Bisi, Dr. J. Americo Gonzalez-Esparza,
Dr. Bernard V. Jackson, Prof. Igor V. Chashei have agreed to act as
Guest Editors for this Issue of the SW Journal.

We solicit manuscripts on this general subject, for inclusion in this
SI of Space Weather, with deadlines of 29 February 2016 (Monday) for
submission of a statement of interest, title, abstract, and
suggestions of referees, and of 01 July 2016 (Friday) for submission
of the completed manuscripts.

There are only modest charges for publishing in SW due to the Journal
being based online, and the Journalís impact factor is increasing as
more of us with an interest in Space Weather publish and reference
papers in the Journal.

In order to respect the other contributors, we will be strict with
deadlines for submission, refereeing, and proofing. To expedite the
schedule, referees will be identified prior to the submission of the
manuscripts on the basis of the abstracts. Papers which are late,
either because of delays in submission or protracted refereeing, will
likely appear individually in later issues of the Journal.

If you wish to participate in this SW SI, then please let us know by
Monday 29 February 2016 to be considered for inclusion by E-Mail to
Mario Bisi (Mario.Bisi [at] stfc.ac.uk) (with the subject line: URGENT
- Space Weather Remote Sensing Special Issue) and provide us with a
tentative title, abstract, authors, estimated number of pages, as well
as names and E-Mail addresses of at least three potential referees.
If you do not receive a response within 10 days, then we have accepted
your proposed submission, and you should then prepare and submit your
manuscript for refereeing by Friday 31 July 2016
(http://spaceweather-submit.agu.org/cgi-bin/main.plex - when
submitting you should select the SI at the start of your submission -
but please note that submissions for this SW SI will not open until
Friday 01 April 2016).

Many thanks, best wishes, and we look forward to your SOI soon,

Mario M. Bisi, J. Americo Gonzalez-Esparza, Bernard V. Jackson, and
Igor V. Chashei (Guest Editors).

Saludos desde Morelia,

Americo
