First Winter School of the Valongo Observatory: A Joint Event with  
Chilean Institutes

We announce the First Winter School at the Valongo Observatory, to be  
held between the 22nd and 26th of July, 2013, and organized jointly  
with Chilean institutions. The event will comprise four courses in  
different areas of Astrophysics, and will be targeted towards graduate  
students and young researchers.


The programme is as follows:

I. Romano Corradi (IAC, Spain) – Stellar Evolution: Symbiotic Stars  
(and their relation with SNe)
II. Chris Flynn (Swinburne University, Australia) – Galactic Structure  
and Dynamics
III. Leopoldo Infante (PUC, Chile) & Verónica Motta (Universidad de  
Valparaíso, Chile)
IV. Lisa Kaltenegger (MPIA, Germany / Harvard, USA) – Exoplanets/Astrobiology

Registration will be free of charge.

Registration is now open and limited to 80 participants. Priority will  
be given to graduate students and young researchers.

We call your attention to the fact that World Youth Day will happen  
during the same week, including a visit by the Pope on July 24th.  
Therefore we advise you to register and book your flight as well as  
accommodation, as soon as possible.

A list of hotels/hostels will promptly be send to each one upon registration.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you in Rio in July!
