[AAA] Announcement of Gemini procurement for software development

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA),
acting as the operator of the Gemini Observatory, is seeking a vendor to
develop and upgrade software systems for the Gemini Observatory working
on an hourly basis.  Specific work may include migration of our existing
Data Handling System to Linux, additions to the Quick Look tools to
support MCAO/GeMS and addition of new instruments, migration of existing
Yorick routines for guide star selection to the Observing tool, and
creation of a catalog and image display and overlay for our Phase 1
Tool. Support with web-based applications and new developments.

Required qualifications are: A B.S in Computer Science is required; 8+
Years of hands on experience with software used at a major astronomy
observatory such as FITS files, WCS, SkyCat, Virtual Observatory;
Experience developing applications used at a major astronomy observatory
using Java, C++, TCL/TK; Substantial experience with Java and Swing user
interfaces, including image display and overlay with JAI, Java2D,
JFreeChart, and other complex swing components; Experience with IntelliJ
Idea IDE; Familiarity with development under Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

A Request for Proposal for this procurement will be released in the near
future.  Vendors that are interested in receiving this Request for
