The Faculty of Physics at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile
offers a position in Astronomy at the assistant or associate professor
level, beginning as early as June 2008. The requirements are a Ph.D.
degree and a demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in
independent research and teaching.

The successful candidate is expected to join the research and teaching
activities of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics and interact
closely with students. The Department includes eleven faculty and seven
postdocs carrying out research in cosmology, extragalactic, Galactic and
stellar astrophysics, using optical, radio and theoretical techniques. 
While
researchers in all areas of astrophysics are encouraged to apply, slight-
preference will be given to scientists working in mining and interpretation
of data from large astronomical surveys, Computer Science applications
to large astronomical databases, astronomical instrumentation, and radio-
mm astronomy.  The successful applicant will have access to 10% of all
the telescope time in Chile, including VLT, Gemini, Magellan, APEX
and ALMA telescopes.  Teaching duties are in astronomy and physics,
at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate is expected to
be able to teach in Spanish within a year. Further information can be
