                      THIRD ANNUAL MEETING
                  SOCIEDAD CHILENA DE ASTRONOMIA



Introduction:
-------------

This is the first announcement of the Third Annual Meeting of the
Sociedad Chilena de Astronomia (SOCHIAS), to be held in Santiago,
Chile, between the 12th and 14th of January, 2004.

The Meeting will consist of invited review talks, contributed talks
and posters, a conference meal on Tuesday the 13th, a talk open to the
general public and an assembly for SOCHIAS members. The presentations
will cover many areas of astronomy, including star formation,
stellar and sub-stellar objects, galaxies, AGNs, and the high-redshift
Universe.

Venue and Registration:
-----------------------

The venue for the Meeting will be the Facultad de Ciencias Fisicas y
Matematicas de la Universidad de Chile, located in Beauchef 850 near
Metro station Parque O'Higgins.

Registration is due DECEMBER 1, 2003

If you are considering contributing to the program, we urge you to send your
title and abstract BEFORE DECEMBER 15, 2003.

We encourage astronomy students (undergraduates and graduates)
to attend the meeting.  No registration fee will be charged to students.

For all other participants the registration fee is $15.000 and can be
paid at the registration desk on Monday the 12th.  SOCHIAS members
with their annual dues paid are exempted from the registration fee.
Annual dues can be paid at the registration desk during the meeting.

We have funding to assist people from outside Santiago with their
traveling expenses. Please apply when you fill in the registration
form or send us an email at the address above.
