SUPERNOVA 2015ad IN UGC 2282 = PSN J02484234+1418454
Simone Leonini, Siena, Italy, reports the discovery by S. Leonini, M.
Conti, P. Rosi, L. M. Tinjaca Ramirez, G. Guerrini of an apparent supernova
(mag about 16.9) on an unfiltered CCD image (limiting mag about 17.5) taken
on July 29.124 UT using a 0.53-m f/8.7 Ritchey-Chretien telescope (+ Apogee
Alta U47 CCD camera) in the course of an automated survey of the Italian
Supernovae Search Project. The new object is located at R.A. = 2h48m42s.34,
Decl. = +14d18'45".4 (equinox J2000.0), which is 3" east and 9" south of the
nucleus of UGC 2282. Nothing is visible at this position on Palomar Sky
Survey plates from 1991 Oct. 31 (infrared), 1949 Nov. 21 (red), and 1991 Dec.
6 (blue), to limiting mag about 19.5). The discovery image is posted at URL
http://www.astrofilisenesi.it/public/Sne/Uploads/UGC02282_psn.jpg. The
variable was designated PSN J02484234+1418454 when it was posted at the
Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2015ad based on the
spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional CCD magnitudes for
2015ad: 2014 Dec. 26, [18.5 (Leonini et al.); 2015 July 30.808, 17.8 (J.
Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia; position end figures 42s.31, 44".9; image
posted at URL https://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/19567814744/);
31.815, 17.7 (Brimacombe; position end figures 42s.31, 44".8); Aug. 5.104,
17.1 (Leonini et al.); Aug. 19.956, 17.6 (G. Masi and P. Catalano; remotely
using a 43-cm telescope at Ceccano, Italy; position end figures 42s.25,
45".3).

     P. Ochner, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, N. Elias-Rosa, A. Pastorello, L.
Tomasella, L. Tartaglia, G. Terreran, and M. Turatto, Osservatorio Astronomico
di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that an optical
spectrogram (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.4 nm) of PSN J02484234+1418454 =
SN 2015ad, obtained on Aug. 6.06 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico
Telescope, suggests that this variable is a normal type-Ia supernova.
Assuming a recessional velocity of 7240 km/s for the host galaxy, UGC 2282
(Huchra at al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287; via NED), a good match is found
with several normal type-Ia supernovae around one month post-maximum.
Classifications were done with GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488,
383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024). The Asiago
classification spectra are posted at website URL http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it.
