COMET C/2014 R1 (BORISOV)
G. Borisov reports the discovery of a comet on three CCD images obtained
with the 30-cm f/1.5 astrograph of the MARGO observatory, Nauchnij, Russia
(discovery observations tabulated below). The object showed a coma of
diameter about 30" and a tail 40" long.

After the object was posted on the Minor Planet Center's PCCP webpage, F.
Kugel, Banon, France, reported that unfiltered CCD images taken by C. Rinner
and himself on Sept. 5.13 UT with a 0.4-m f/3 reflector (+ Atik 460ex camera)
at the Observatoire Chante-Perdrix (Dauban) show a coma around 20" in
diameter and a tail about 0'.6 long toward p.a. 290 degrees; Kugle has posted
an image of the comet viewable via website URL http://tinyurl.com/lsttmho.
The available astrometry, the following preliminary parabolic orbital
elements, and an ephemeris appear on MPEC 2014-R64. The comet may be of
short period.
