SUPERNOVA 2014dm IN NGC 1524 = PSN J04080713-0849372

Manulis, and A. Gal-Yam, Weizmann Institute for Science -- on behalf of the
"Public ESO Spectroscopic Survey for Transient Objects" collaboration (see
(cf. website URL http://www.pessto.org) -- report that an optical spectrogram
of PSN J04080713-0849372 = SN 2014dm (cf. CBET 3996), obtained on Sept. 28 UT
at the 3.6-m New Technology Telescope (+ EFOSC2 Grism 13; range 398.5-931.5
nm; 1.8-nm resolution) at La Silla, shows it to be a type-Ia supernova.
Adopting a recession velocity of 6726 km/s for NGC 1516A = NGC 1524 (Strauss
et al. 1992, Ap.J. Suppl. 83, 29; via NED), the best fit to this spectrum
found by "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J.
666, 1024) is with the spectrum of a type-Ia supernova around maximum.  The
spectrum displays H and Si in a manner consistent with a redshift of 0.03.
