SUPERNOVA 2013fo = PSN J01203194+1203122
Tianmeng Zhang, National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC); and
Xiaofeng Wang and Juncheng Chen, Tsinghua University (THU), report the
discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.7) on unfiltered CCD images taken
on Sept. 24.62 UT using the 0.6-m NAOC Schmidt telescope in the course of the
THU-NAOC Transient Survey (TNTS). The new object is located at R.A. =
1h20m31s.94, Decl. = +12d03'12".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 1".0 west and
5".0 south of the center of the presumed host galaxy. Nothing is visible at
this position on a Digitized Sky Survey. The TNTS images are posted at URL
http://www.thca.tsinghua.edu.cn/~wangxf/TNTS/PSNJ01203194+1203122.png. The
variable was designated PSN J01203194+1203122 when it was posted at the
Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2013fo based on the
spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional unfiltered CCD
magnitudes for 2013fo: Jan. 28, [20.0 (TNTS); Sept. 25.715, 16.2 (D.
Denisenko, E. Gorbovskoy, and V. Lipunov, Sternberg Astronomical Institute;
survey images via the MASTER-Tunka robotic telescope, a 0.40-m f/2.5
reflector; limiting mag 18.5; four co-added 60-s exposures are posted at URL
http://master.sai.msu.ru/static/OT/PSNJ01203194+1203122-MASTER-130925.jpg).

Jun Mo, Xulin Zhao, and Xiaofeng Wang, Tsinghua University; and Tianmeng
Zhang, National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC), report on an
optical spectrogram (range 390-870 nm) of PSN J01203194+1203122 = SN 2013fo
that was obtained on Sept. 25.60 UT with the 2.16-m telescope (+ OMR) at the
Xinglong Station of the NAOC. The spectrum is consistent with that of a
type-Ia supernova at about 10 days after maximum light. Cross-correlation
with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code
(SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that 2013fo matches with
SN 2003du at +10 days. From the SNID fit, they measure a redshift of 0.054
for the host galaxy.
