SUPERNOVA 2013gl IN IC 701 = PSN J11310048+2028103
     Further to CBET 3421, P. Lu, W. Zheng, S. B. Cenko, W. Li, and A. V.
Filippenko report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered
KAIT images:

 SN 2013 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
 2013gl   May 9.17    11 31 00.48  +20 28 10.3   16.7    2".6 W, 1".6 N

The variable was designated PSN J11310048+2028103 when it was posted at the
Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2013gl based on the
spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional CCD magnitudes for
2013gl:  Apr. 30.21 UT, [18.7 (KAIT); May 11.977, 16.9 (Gianluca Masi and
Francesca Nocentini, remotely with a 43-cm telescope at Ceccano, Italy;
position end figures 00s.47, 09".8; their image can be viewed at website URL
http://tinyurl.com/llvpykt); 13.299, 15.1 (J. Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia;
remotely using a 51-cm RCOS telescope + luminance filter + STL11K camera at
the New Mexico Skies observatory near Mayhill, NM, U.S.A.; interference due
to proximity to galaxy nucleus; position end figures 00s.57, 09".3; image
posted at URL http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/8740113826/).  The
type-IIb supernova 2004gj also appeared in IC 701 (cf. IAUC 8445).

     W. Zheng, M. L. Graham, P. L. Kelly, I. Shivvers, O. Fox, K. I. Clubb,
J. Mauerhan, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley; and
S. B. Cenko, Goddard Space Flight Center, report that a CCD spectrogram
(range 350-1000 nm) of PSN J11310048+2028103 = SN 2013gl was obtained on June
7.5 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector (+ Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory.
The spectrum shows that 2013gl is probably a type-Ib supernova with a clear
He I 587.5-nm line showing a P-Cyg profile. There are several superimposed
emission lines, probably contributed by the host galaxy. The spectrum shows
reasonable matches with the type-Ib supernovae 2005bf (at 1 day past maximum
brightness) and 1999dn (at 10 days past).
