COMET P/2013 CU_129 (PANSTARRS)
An apparently asteroidal object discovered on images taken on Feb. 13
with the 1.8-m Pan-STARRS1 telescope on Haleakala (discovery positions
tabulated below, along with prediscovery observations from Feb. 1) -- and
designated 2013 CU_129 when announced on MPEC 2013-D15 -- has been found by
Peter Veres, Richard Wainscoat, Henry Hsieh, and Marco Micheli to show
cometary appearance in four w-band images obtained with the Pan-STARRS
telescope on June 2 UT, in which the object displays a short 4" tail in p.a.
about 90 deg. Micheli and Wainscoat obtained a set of follow-up r-band
images with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope on Mauna Kea (queue observer
Peter Forshay) on June 5.28, which show a clear 40" tail in p.a. about 100
deg.
