SUPERNOVA 2013A IN UGC 1825 = PSN J02220426+3213578
     R. Gagliano, J. Newton, and T. Puckett report the discovery of an
apparent supernova (mag 17.6) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19.0)
taken with a 0.35-m reflector at Portal, AZ, U.S.A., on Jan. 1.218 UT in the
course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search.  The new object, which was
confirmed on Jan. 3.144 at mag 17.4 on images (limiting mag 19.1) taken by
Puckett with the 0.40-m reflector at Portal, is located at R.A. = 2h22m04s.26,
Decl. = +32o13'57".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 5".7 east and 7".7 south of
the center of UGC 1825.  A finder image by the discoverers is located website

designated PSN J02220426+3213578 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's
TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2013A based on the spectroscopic

     G. H. Marion and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
(CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, report that a spectrogram (range
340-740 nm) of PSN J02220426+3213578 = SN 2013A was obtained on Jan. 4 UT by
P. Berlind with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST).
Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova
Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows
that 2013A is a type-Ia supernova a few days after maximum light.  A good fit
is found to the template of the normal type-Ia supernova 2000cp at three days
after maximum.  The velocity of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption feature is
measured to be approximately 10600 km/s, using a redshift of z = 0.033807 for
UGC 1825 (de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991, RC3.9C; via NED).
