SUPERNOVA 2012bp
Vladimir Lipunov reports the discovery of a possible supernova (mag 15.5)
on three unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 18.8) taken with the MASTER II
dual 40-cm telescope (+ Apogee CCD Alta U16m camera; field-of-view 2 deg x 4
deg) at the Tunka observatory as part of the MASTER auto-detection system (see
website URL (http://observ.pereplet.ru) on Mar. 24.852 UT. The new object is
located at R.A. = 16h18m12s.44, Decl. = +36d28'52".8 (equinox 2000.0).
Nothing is visible at this position on a reference image taken on 2011 June
28.677 (limiting mag 20.0). The discovery and reference images are available
at website URL http://master.sai.msu.ru/static/OT/161812.44362852.8.png.

     A. Pastorello, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, M. Fiaschi, P. Ochner, L.
Tomasella, M. Turatto, and S. Valenti, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova,
Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that a spectrogram of 2012bp,
obtained on Mar. 27.13 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC;
range 340-820 nm; resolution 2.4 nm), suggests that it is a type-Ia supernova.
Adopting for the host galaxy a redshift z = 0.02829 (SDSS 2004, via NED) the
comparison with a library of supernovae spectra via GELATO (Harutyuyan et al.
2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) shows that 2012bp is a type-Ia event similar to SN
2003du (Stanishev et al. 2007, A.Ap. 469, 645) close to B-band maximum light.
The expansion velocity deduced from the Si II 635.5-nm minimun is about 10800
km/s.
