NOVA SAGITTARII 2012 No. 5 = PSN J18193700-1907400
     Further to CBET 3182, U. Munari and P. Ochner, Istituto Nazionale di
Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova and A. Maitan, S. Tomaselli,
and S. Dallaporta, "Asiago Novae and Symbiotic Stars" (ANS) collaboration,
report that optical spectra (range 330-800 nm, dispersion 0.231 nm/pixel) of
PNV J18193700-1907400 were obtained on July 18.88 UT with the Asiago 1.22-m
telescope.  The object presents hydrogen Balmer and Fe II lines (multiplets
42, 48, 49, 27, 28, 37, 38) in strong emission, and it is classified as a
"Fe II"-type nova close to maximum brightness.  Strong interstellar Na I and
K I atomic lines and diffuse bands (at 443.0, 578.0, 627.0, 628.4, and 6614
nm) indicates large interstellar reddening affecting the nova.  The FWHM of
Balmer and Fe II emission lines is 990 km/s; the FWHM of He I lines is 640
km/s.  He I lines present marked P-Cyg absorption components blue-shifted by
760 km/s with respect to the emission components.  Fe II show much weaker
P-Cyg absorptions blue-shifted by 570 km/s, while no P-Cyg component is
present in Balmer lines.  The absolute fluxes of H_alpha, H_beta, H_gamma,
Fe II 492.3-nm, Fe II 501.8-nm, He I 587.6-nm, and He I 667.8-nm, in units
of 10**(-13) erg cm**(-2) s**(-1), are 75.0, 5.1, 1.4, 1.7, 2.1, 1.1, and
1.0, respectively.  CCD photometry for July 18.92 UT yields V = 12.28, B-V
= +1.77, V-R_c = +1.13, V-I_c = +2.27.

     Terry Bohlsen, Armidale, NSW, Australia, reports that he obtained
spectroscopy (R = 600; 24-micron slit) with a 20-cm telescope (+ LISA
spectrograph) on July 19 of PNV J18193700-1907400, showing that the object is
reddened with a broad H_apha emission line having a FWHM of 860 km/s,
consistent with an evolving nova.  The spectrum is posted at website URL

     R. A. Koff (Bennett, CO, U.S.A.) reports that unfiltered CCD images
(limiting magnitude 16.0) of PNV J18193700-1907400 taken around July 18.226
UT with a Meade 0.25-m f/10 reflector (+ SBIG ST-9E camera) yield magnitude
11.6 and the following position:  R.A. = 18h19m36s.94, Decl. = -19d07'40".5
(equinox 2000.0; UCAC3 reference stars).  No magnitude change > 0.02 mag was
seen in 1.25 hr of time-series observations.
