SUPERNOVA 2012K IN PGC 2065
     Vladimir Lipunov, Sternberg Astronomical Institute, on behalf of the
MASTER Robotic Net team, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag
V = 16.0 +/- 0.3) via the MASTER-Amur auto-detection system on two images
taken on Jan. 8.502 UT (limiting mag 16.8). The new object is located at
R.A. = 0h34m30s.79, Decl. = +30d24'06".3 (equinox 2000.0), which is 13".9
east and 15".7 north of the center of PGC 2065. Nothing was visible at this
position in a MASTER reference image from 2011 Aug. 31.756 (limiting R mag
18.8). The discovery image is posted at the following website URL:
http://observ.pereplet.ru/images/PSN_PGC002065/PSN_PGC002065.png.

     L. Tomasella, E. Cappellaro, P. Ochner, S. Benetti, A. Pastorello, and
S. Valenti, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di
Astrofisica, report that a spectrum (range 360-810 nm; resolution 2.2 nm)
of 2012K was obtained on Jan. 17.75 UT with the Ekar-Copernico 1.82-m
telescope (+ AFOSC). The spectrum is dominated by broad Balmer emissions
typical of a normal type-II supernova shortly after maximum. While H_alpha
shows only a broad emission component, H_beta has a well-developed P-Cyg
profile. Adopting a recession velocity of 6086 km/s (de Vaucouleurs et al.
1991, RC3 catalogue; via NED) for the parent galaxy, the absorption minimum
corresponds to an expansion velocity of 10500 km/s.
