COMET P/2012 Y2 = 1999 D1 (HERMANN)
     Peter Veres, Bryce Bolin, Henry Hsieh, and Richard Wainscoat, University
of Hawaii, reported the discovery of a comet on images taken with the 1.8-m
Pan-STARRS1 telescope on Haleakala (discovery observations tabulated below),
noting the object to have a diffuse, non-stellar appearance with a tail about
10" long to the northwest. After posting on the NEOCP webpage, with
additional astrometry obtained on Dec. 25 at Cerro Tololo by T. Linder and R.
Holmes, both Gareth V. Williams (Minor Planet Center) and Maik Meyer
(Limburg, Germany) independently suggested that this object is identical to
comet P/1999 D1 (cf. IAUC 7111, 7112, 7134).

     2012 UT             R.A. (2000) Decl.       Mag.
     Dec. 22.61271   13 03 33.11   - 3 10 16.0   20.2
          22.61730   13 03 33.67   - 3 10 23.4   20.1
          22.62192   13 03 34.22   - 3 10 30.7   20.5
          22.62652   13 03 34.78   - 3 10 38.1   20.3

The indicated correction to the prediction by S. Nakano (ICQ 2012 Comet
Handbook, p. H11) is Delta(T) = +8.9 days.  The available astrometry from
2012, the following linked orbital elements by Williams (from 121 observations
spanning 1999 Feb. 20-2012 Dec. 25; mean residual 0".8), and an ephemeris
appear on MPEC 2012-Y29.

                    Epoch = 2012 Dec. 19.0 TT
     T = 2012 Dec. 27.28058 TT        Peri. = 173.98412
     e = 0.7141342                    Node  = 348.75560 2000.0
     q = 1.6437649 AU                 Incl. =  21.34274
       a =  5.7501286 AU   n = 0.07148053   P =  13.79 years
